What led you to start working in digital/media publishing?
I’ve been a print journalist since 1979 and got involved in web forums when I launched a magazine (The Wealthy Boomer) in 1999, which led to blogging and more online activity, culminating in the site I now run: FindependenceHub.com (aka FinancialIndependenceHub.com).
What does a typical day look like for you?
I describe a 4-hour day in my co-authored book, Victory Lap Retirement: two two-hour creative/work sessions with information gathering/absorbing the news/social media/emails filling in before,
between and after those two-hour work blocks.
What’s your work setup like?
I have a fully equipped home office with Apple equipment of all kinds: MacBook Air with an HP large monitor, wireless mouse, the major Microsoft apps and WordPress as my blog publishing app. I also use the iPhone 6S and iPad mini to download major newspapers and magazines and use the VoiceRecord app on either machine to record interviews.
What do you do to get inspired?
Stay on top of the news and social media, and consider pitches from various sources.
What’s your favorite piece of writing or quote?
Nothing comes to mind.
What is the passionate problem you are tackling at the moment?
Just trying to spread the word on Financial Independence and keep the website going and paying for itself.
Is there a product, solution, or tool that you think is a good match for your digital publishing efforts?
None I can think of.

Any advice for ambitious digital publishing and media professionals just starting out?
Guest blogs are one way to get started: usually without pay initially but a good way to get your feet wet and establish your name in certain fields of expertise. FindependenceHub.com does accept such blogs, as it seeks to publish five or six days a week, 52 weeks a year (and has been doing since its launch three years ago).
