What led you to start working in digital/media publishing?
It was a natural evolution of the print world to the digital one, especially as I have focused on the technology world in my career. I have ended up sitting on the front lines of innovative entrepreneurs and tech companies so I’ve benefited from their insight and my interest in the new and the interesting. Digital has redefined what I can do with words, and it constantly challenges how my business should evolve, making it a really exciting place to be right now.
What does a typical day look like for you?
I am up at 5:00 am to exercise, prep the family and get my To Do list in order. By 8:30 am I’ve worked for two hours and started getting the day rolling. I write content for clients, I prepare content for publishing houses, I research ideas for the next round of features, I study for another digital qualification if I can find the time and I look for new clients in new spaces.
What does your work setup look like?
I have a dual monitor system with an Alienware laptop to sate my gaming additions. I use Skype, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and banking apps to ensure my clients are kept in contact (global client network) and my taxes and funds up to date.
What do you do or go to get inspired?
I run and I box. I also like to just surf Google on a word to see what happens – I usually set the timing for a year or sit in News to see what the word brings. Today I searched for the term revolutionary to see who was abusing it and who fit the brief.
What’s your favorite piece of writing or quote?
I don’t actually have one! I do have my favourite poem – The Second Coming by Yeats.
What is the passionate problem you are tackling at the moment?
The shift from journalist and editor to content provider in a way that is both relevant and profitable.
Is there a product, solution, or tool that you think is a good match for your digital publishing efforts?
Any that don’t make me work harder. Trello is good.
